The four little pigs of Rundle Mall...

Two days ago, Em and I headed into the city centre to check out some of the parks. But first, we made a stop in at the info centre to see about Kangaroo Island and Uluru. In all my searching, it seems there is no cheap way to go and see Uluru on a planned tour. Not only is it not cheap, the tours only go one way so I would still have to find a way home after the tour was over. That being said, I am still determined to get there before the long trek home, so today we headed back to the info centre to see what I could plan without doing the whole tour experience on the way there. Just me and a return ticket on the 24 hour train ride is a good place to start, and hopefully the rest will fall easily (and inexpensively) into place. However, the info lady was determined to be unhelpful and so I am left to plan this one out on my own in attempts of spending less.

So, after getting some more ideas on trip planning and grabbing an iced coffee supreme, Em and I made our way to Victoria Square. It is one of the largest parks within the CBD, excluding the surrounding parklands around the city. The fountain in the square helps to drown out the passing traffic, making it a relaxing retreat from the rest of the city.

ah, the wonders of photoshop when you don't have a tripod!

We then made our way to the Whitmore Square, which wasn’t near as busy. It was a nice enough park, but there were a lot of random paths and there wasn’t much surrounding activity or businesses to keep this park feeling as inviting. Just the same, we found a quiet bench in the sun and enjoyed our sandwiches that we packed that morning. After this we walked up to Light Square, which felt lively again. There was businesses bustling and a pretty constant flow of people moving through the park.

There are two more squares that we still have to check out another day when we are in the city: Hindmarsh Square and Hurtle Square. A good way to describe how these five parks are laid out is like the 5 point face on a dice. Victoria Square is located in the center with the four other squares to the above left and right, and below left and right.

Before heading back home for the evening we decided to take another long walk down Rundle St., where I thought I would capture some of the sculptures along this pedestrian street. The Spheres, or more commonly known as the “malls balls” have become a popular meeting place for locals and tourists. The Four pigs of Rundle mall: Horatio, Truffles, Augusta and Oliver, who are hanging out by a rubbish (haha Ashley) bin, have also become a popular photo stop for many.
